The Joy Of Being A Reader

Image
"You really want to buy another one of those? Again?" My mother asks, her normally serene voice laced with a tinge of irritation.
I nod eagerly, my face lighting up like a Christmas tree. My hands are tightly clutching the new bundle of joy, ready to be explored and (later) smelled. My mind's already wandering, imagining the exciting adventures I'll embark on with this.
"You have too many books already, Ammu!" She snaps irritably, breaking me out of my reverie. "Plus, your cupboard is full already! You still haven't read those classics! Are you really, really keen on buying this?!"
She expects me to take a deep breath and place the book back on the store's shelf. She expects me to say, "Oh Mamma, you're right. You're absolutely right. How could I be so fiscally irresponsible? I promise that from now on, I'll be a perfect child and donate the rest of my collection to my various cousins scattered over the country."

Book Fangirling Blogger Award! :D

Image
You might be wondering where I must have disappeared off to, eh?
That is, if you were constantly stalking my blog in hopes of an update.
I have my final exams going on right now, so I disappeared for a while.
And now, I'm back with a really short, quick post which is the Book Fangirling Blogger Award!
I got nominated for this award by the lovely Adriana Gil, who runs the blog 'Everything You Like'! Her blogposts range from awesome-sauce anime reviews to vivid descriptions of her experiences! So, do check out her blog, dear reader!
So, in this blogger award, we are supposed to answer the questions given out by the person who nominated us (in my case, it's Adriana) and then nominate five other people who will answer questions made by us!
Here goes nothing! :)
1. What's your favorite book?
Honestly speaking, this is a tough question.
I've been reading books since I was nine years old and there have been so many books that have had a deep impact about my menta…

Dear Thirteen-Year-Old Me,

I'm dividing this letter into different parts, so that neither of us would get muddled up.
About Your Physical Appearance:
I know what you're going through.

You are terribly upset about the fact that you're not as tall as kids your age. Your friends are taller than you, your cousins - who are close to your age! - are taller and healthier than you. You feel really diminutive in front of everyone. You get really sad when people exclaim, "You are in eighth grade! I thought you were about nine years old!"
Especially that lady living nearby your house, who's about as tall as a ten-year-old kid and as round as a football.
It's completely fine. I assure you, you're going to grow as as tall as Mom. And all those people are going to be shorter than you! They'll be the ones who'll marvel at your height.
You are really scared about "growing up". You're scared that you won't be able to play with the kids downstairs anymore. You feel…

Divergent Book Review

Image
Sixteen-year-old Tris is forced to make a terrible choice. In a divided society where everyone must conform, Tris does not fit. So she ventures out alone, determined to discover where she truly belongs. Shocked by her brutal new life, Tris can trust no one. And yet she is drawn to a boy who seems to both threaten and protect her.
The hardest choice lies ahead.
After reading that summary, you must have thought that Divergent is a mix of Twilight and The Hunger Games. I thought so too. When I started reading the first chapter, I felt quite dull because of the seemingly monotonous style of writing and it felt eerily like The Hunger Games. So, I shut the book and kept it in my bookshelf. Last week, I decided to give this book another try. I tried to be patient this time as I read the seemingly dull first chapter. Then, things picked up dramatically after chapter number five.

What basically is Divergent about? Yes, the book’s set in a dystopic society. The society is divided into five factio…

An Analysis On How Much I Love The Harry Potter Series.

The Harry Potter series, written by J.K. Rowling is one of my favourite book series. In fact, it gets the first spot.
When people hear about Harry Potter, they often associate it with magic. Yes, it does involve a very good dosage of magic, but truth be told, it deals with a lot of other subjects too.
According to J.K. Rowling, the main theme of the whole series is ‘death’. Death is something which all of us are afraid of. In fact, when the word death flashes in your mind, you can hardly imagine what happens after. Death is natural. It is inevitable.
I can see how this series deals with death. It was very clever from Rowling’s part to show how Voldemort wanted to be invincible, to be immortal. It is something which many dictators and those of the diabolical, despicable kind desire – immortality. I like the concept of Horcruxes, the articles where one keeps a part of his soul to keep himself protected.
Also, I like how she described the effects of a person’s death on the loved ones. Wh…

Debutantes

Image
Debutantes written by Cora Harrison is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve read. And trust me, I’ve read quite a few books from that genre. It’s dreamy, romantic, glamorous, mysterious and warm all at the same time! I really loved it!
All right, I was attracted by the cover of this book first. Yeah, yeah, they say that never judge a book by its cover but the gorgeous shade of pink and the girl (It is Daisy, right?) looking at you with those delicate eyes and the summary at the back of the book – they attracted me a lot.
Slightly reminiscent of Little Women and Pride and Prejudice , this book tells the story of four sisters, mainly focussing on sixteen-year-old Daisy Derrington. There’s Violet, the eldest sister, who wishes to have her coming-out ball and marry a rich ‘elder son’. Next are the twins, Poppy and Daisy. Poppy is a jazz enthusiast while Daisy wants to be a filmmaker. The last, but not the least, is Rose – an aspiring writer who I personally could connect with.
