A Bundle Of Contradictions

Finding Fanny, starring Naseeruddin Shah, Deepika Padukone, Dimple Kapadia, Arjun Kapoor and Pankaj Kapur, is a delightful, warm and sunny movie which (thankfully) doesn't have your typical Bollywood masala.

While most Bollywood movies are overdosed with drama and garishness, Finding Fanny is a rare gem which has been created with a tremendous amount of tenderness. It's a rare gem amongst the senseless potboilers that Bollywood has been producing since ages.

You might find most Bollywood flicks infested with the cheesiest jokes, physics-defying stunts and a bunch of highly unnecessary innuendos.

However, Finding Fanny is completely different.

Before we delve into the merits of this superbly well-crafted film, let's just get a few technicalities straightened out, shall I?

When I started reading the first chapter, I felt quite dull because of the seemingly monotonous style of writing and it felt eerily like The Hunger Games. So, I shut the book and kept it in my bookshelf. Last week, I decided to give this book another try. I tried to be patient this time as I read the seemingly dull first chapter. I might be a bit brutal, but please bear with me.
So, I went to watch Gunday with my parents.
It was my mother’s idea. My mother is big on watching Bollywood flicks, especially of the ‘masala’ kind. She’s always loved watching these kinds of movies and she’s passed down this trait to me as well.
I was kind of eager to go too, because my best friend (who shall be called Scooby in this blog) said that it was good.
“It is so good!” Scooby said earnestly. “They have acted so well!”
Since I blindly trust Scooby’s judgment, I decided to give Gunday a shot.
The story’s about two refugees/immigrants from Bangladesh who make it big in Calcutta. It’s (supposedly) set during the early ‘70s and mid ‘80s. These two friends, Bikram and Bala (Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor respectively) first start smuggling coal and then they “branch out” their smuggling business to LPG, fishes (which are quite popular in West Bengal!) and timber from Burma.

Yeah, so I saw Freaky Friday starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis yesterday.
Don't give me such weird stares (Which I know you're giving once you read the first sentence). The movie was released when I was, what, a six-year-old kid.
So now, I begin with the review.  ~~~~

A year after its release, I saw the movie Snow White and the Huntsman. I was planning to watch it with one of my friends, however we couldn't move further with our plans. Yeah, you could say we had busy lives and of course, this movie wasn't the latest adaption of Harry Potter, Percy Jackson or the Hunger Games which we simply couldn't miss. So yeah, we let it go. Like they say, you can't have everything, can you? However, when it was on TV last night, I didn't skip it like last time. Because A] I was super bored and B] I figured that writing a review for this movie would be interesting enough.
PLOT:

Debutantes written by Cora Harrison is one of the best historical fiction books I’ve read. And trust me, I’ve read quite a few books from that genre. It’s dreamy, romantic, glamorous, mysterious and warm all at the same time! I really loved it! 
All right, I was attracted by the cover of this book first. Yeah, yeah, they say that never judge a book by its cover but the gorgeous shade of pink and the girl (It is Daisy, right?) looking at you with those delicate eyes and the summary at the back of the book – they attracted me a lot. 
Slightly reminiscent of Little Women and Pride and Prejudice , this book tells the story of four sisters, mainly focussing on sixteen-year-old Daisy Derrington. There’s Violet, the eldest sister, who wishes to have her coming-out ball and marry a rich ‘elder son’. Next are the twins, Poppy and Daisy. Poppy is a jazz enthusiast while Daisy wants to be a filmmaker. The last, but not the least, is Rose – an aspiring writer who I personally could connect with.

I went out with one of my oldest friends to watch The Croods today.  And to be very frank. Do not miss the chance of watching that movie.  So anyhow, I'll get on with the review.
The Croods is basically about a family in the prehistoric period surviving the odds. There's an overprotective father, Grug, who is scared of trying out new things, whose basic motto is like, 'always fear because fear keeps you alive'. There is his wife, Ugga, and her mother, the granny (the best character in the whole movie. Reminded me a lot of my granny). There are his three children, the spirited Eep, the bumbling Thunk and the violent little Sandy.  One fine night, Eep sneaks out of the family's cave when she sees 'sunlight'. As she follows the 'sunlight', she meets up with Guy, a nomad who survives not through physical strength, but through ideas that pop into his head. I did NOT EXPECT THAT ENDING!
But let me begin from the beginning.
Mark Of Athena by Rick Riordan is by far the best book in the Heroes Of Olympus series. The Lost Hero was nice enough, The Son Of Neptune was even better, however Mark Of Athena takes the cake.
The book starts when the Greek trireme Argo II reaches Camp Jupiter. The attempts to unite the Greeks and Romans fails when Leo Valdez, the creator of Argo II is possesed by an eidolon. Due to this, Leo destroys most of the New Rome and whatever attempts that had been made by Annabeth Chase and the rest to unite the two sets of demigods fails. Along with Percy Jackson (one of my all-time favourite fictional heroes), Frank Zhang and Hazel Levesque, Annabeth, Leo, Piper and Jason embark a journey to Greece to shut the Doors Of Death and prevent the destruction of the world by the evil earth goddess Gaia.

Okay, so this is my second post in a few hours. I couldn't resist posting this.
Today was a holiday in our school, so I was at home. I flicked through the newspaper, trying to find scoop on what movie will be on today so that I could do my homework alongside as I watched the movie. I saw that 'A Cinderella Story' was there in HBO, so I switched it on at 12. I'd seen the movie once before and I loved it - I didn't care whatever insane things the critics had written about it. I just loved it because it teaches a lot of fundamental things and at the same time, is very funny.
